Can’t get around the website? Okay, what are you looking for?
How do I become a member of the website?
It’s so easy! If you have a Facebook account, just click the Facebook button near the top of the page and you can register quickly. If you wouldn’t have anything to do with Facebook, to the right there is a link to register and you can plug in whatever name and password you want.
What does “anawim” mean?
A really basic definition of anawim can be found in our About page. If you’d like to explore that further, please go to our group The Poor and the Bible.
What is Anawim and what does it do?
Anawim is a church of the homeless. If you want to find out our origins, and our goals, check out the About page. If you want to know all the different things we participate in, check out our Ministries page. If you want to know the days and times of our activities, please look at the Times page. AND, if you want to be updated with the recent news and all, please look at our newsletter.
How do I get information about the homeless?
Our most straightforward information about the homeless is in our articles about Dehumanization.
Steve Kimes’ blog is also peppered with information about the homeless. If you still want more, you can go to Steve’s blog, Homelessness: A Jesus Perspective.
How do I give to Anawim?
All that information is on our Donation page —both giving financially and specific items.
Where’s the latest story by Jeff Strong?
Strong Stories can be found under Blogs: Jeff Strong’s Blog.
How can my church get involved with the homeless?
We have a lot of information and ideas about the homeless. First, look at our articles about Congregations and the Poor. You can join our discussion in the group My Congregation and the Poor. Also, there is a manual about ministry to the homeless you can get for free in our blog.
How can I get involved with Anawim?
Well, there are a lot of options. If you are local to the Portland area, you could volunteer, donate items or support in other ways. What kinds of volunteering? We are looking for people to serve food, help with transportation, pick up donations, and, especially, to get to know and love the homeless and mentally ill. If you are distant, you could donate on the page, or you could join our prayer team. And for anyone, find a group to discuss with us. Do you have ideas of how Anawim could run better? Great, please join our Anawim group. Want to talk about what it means to be homeless? Join our Sociology of Homelessness group. There are a lot of options, so please check out our groups.
What does Jesus say about the poor?
This is a big question that we are always thinking about. You can look through the re-written teachings of Jesus in our section Jesus and the Anawim. If you’d like to read more about that, please get the book Long Live the Riff Raff: Jesus’ Social Revolution by Steve Kimes. It’s available for Kindle only, but you can read it on your computer. (If you’d rather a PDF of the book, contact us and we’ll get you one for the same price, which can be given via the Donate page)
If you’d like to give your own opinion about what Jesus said about the poor, please check in our group The Poor and the Bible or another group Being Jesus.
